Rakhmonov annoyed by Khamzat Chimaev comparisons: ”I’m Shavkat!”

Khamzat Chimaev and Shavkat Rakhmonov are both undefeated prospects in the UFC welterweight division and have finished all of their professional fights so far.

So naturally, they are often compared against one another.

But Rakhmonov, who defeated Carlston Harris via knockout for his third straight UFC win earlier this month, seems to have grown weary of the comparisons to the Swedish star.

“I get annoyed because I’m not Khamzat, I’m Shavkat! This is the question I get asked the most, when are we going to fight. Time will show. Right now I’m just being annoyed with this question a lot,” Rakhmonov said on The MMA Hour.

While Chimaev is slated to face No. 3 ranked welterweight contender Gilbert Burns later this spring, Rakhmonov sees no reason to rush his way into a title shot. He would rather fight the likes of unranked Michel Pereira next.

”I think he’s a very exciting fighter,” Rakhmonov said. “He’s a very interesting fighter who likes to play with his opponents, and I just wanted to showcase myself, that I can shut him down and I can finish him. He wouldn’t be able to play with me like that.”

Shavkhat Rakhmonov also says he wants to return to the octagon this summer, after Ramadan has ended.
