Alexander Gustafsson is back.

According to sources close to the situation, the Swedish UFC legend will be returning to light heavyweight to face rising contender Paul Craig in his next UFC fight.

The fight is in the works for a UFC Fight Night event on Sep. 4 at a location yet to be determined.

Frontkick previously reported that Alexander Gustafsson was returning to his old weight class after a short stint in heavyweight where he lost to former champion Fabricio Werdum.

“The Mauler”, who has three straight UFC losses, will now be welcomed back by one of the dark horses at 205. Craig is unbeaten in his last five fights, winning three straight by way of impressive finishes – two of which awarded him Performance of the Night bonuses.

The Scotsman who calls himself “Bearjew” almost ripped the arm of Jamahal Hill, who was on a nine fight unbeaten streak, in his last outing.

Can Alexander Gustafsson get back into title contention?

Alexander Gustafsson officially retired after a tough submission loss to Anthony Smith in his hometown of Stockholm, Sweden two years ago. The Swede later returned as a heavyweight against Werdum last year, only to fall short once again by way of submission.

“The Mauler” now seems to be making another run at 205, and a win over number No. 12 ranked contender Paul Craig would certainly put him back in light heavyweight contention.

Alexander Gustafsson has fought for the light heavyweight strap on three separate occasions and is widely considered to be one of the of the best fighters of all time to never win a UFC title.
