Khamzat Chimaev remains in Grozny, Chechnya where he’s slowly but surely getting back into fighting shape.

Now he’s considering staying even longer than previously planned and he might actually start his upcoming training camp over there, Frontkick has learned.

We’re hearing that Chimaev is very pleased about how he’s being taken care of in Chechnya. He has not yet ruled out the option of returning back home to Allstars Training Center in Stockholm, Sweden when Ramadan is over – but as of now part of his team might actually decide to travel to Chechnya if he choses to begin his next camp over there.

Watch Chimaev train in Chechnya and even wrestle a bit with the controversial leader Ramzan Kadyrov in the Instagram posts below!

Guram Kutateladze on Khamzat Chimaev: “I’m very happy for him”

Frontkick spoke briefly to Chimaev’s training partner Guram Kutateladze in Stockholm, who confirmed that such discussions are under way.

“He’s sparring and doing all kinds of training. He’s back on track and I’m very happy for him. I think the first part of his training camp, he’s going to do there as I know. I think some part of the team is maybe going to travel to him. We will see, I’m not really sure. I’m not really updated on that, but I had some conversations with Khamzat,” Kutateladze told Frontkick.

Chimaev himself alluded to this in a recent interview with MMA Junkie.

“Now I come back slowly, because it’s Ramadan now and I’m fasting. After two weeks I’m going to start 100 %, my coaches will come to Chechnya and we’re going to do like three weeks of training here. Then we go back to maybe Sweden, maybe we come to Las Vegas,” Chimaev told MMA Junkie.

Nothing is set in stone as of yet, but we’re also hearing Chimaev might go to Dubai for the later part of his camp before going back to the US for his next fight, which is expected to take place sometime in August against an opponent to be determined.

Manager explains surgery in Chechnya, says Chimaev ‘removed a cyst’

Lastly, many people have been asking about the surgery Chimaev recently went through in Chechnya. The operation has been brought up in two separate interviews with ESPN and MMA Junkie, but Chimaev was unable to explain the details in English.

“It was something inside here, Chimaev told MMA Junkie while pointing at his throat. “I don’t know how to explain it in English brother. Maybe my manager can translate this shit. I’m going to speak to him in Swedish, like, he’s going to translate it to English.

Frontkick asked Chimaev’s manager Majdi Shammas about the surgery, who simply explained the medical procedure.

“They removed a cyst,” Shammas told Frontkick.
