At Oktagon 34 last Saturday, Swedish bantamweight Cornelia Holm defeated Polish kickboxer Roza Gumienna in a three round bout. In the latest episode of Swedish fighting podcast Käftsmällspodden, “Conny Future” talked about the important win and gave a prediction on when she might be back in the cage.
Coming into the fight, Holm had three straight losses against top opponents, and was in bad need of a victory. Even though there was a lot at stake, the Gothenburg fighter chose not to think about it.
“I never had that in mind,” Holm said. “I was very nervous, but only in a good way. I felt very happy for the fight. I think it was because I trained extremely focused, so I was way prepared to have any negative thoughts.”
The Swede suffered no injuries during the bout at Oktagon 34, and is looking to find a new fight as soon as possible.
“I would like to fight in late August or sometime in September. That would have been awesome. Oktagon has an event in September but that card might already be full,” Holm said.
Cornelia Holm: “The second round was a bit chaotic”
Cornelia Holm made a strong performance against the tall and skilled striker Roza Gumienna. She used her advantage on the ground to control the fight and won via unanimous decision with 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27 on the scorecards.
“She was good, a very fun and tough fight. In the second round she kicked me on the nose and it felt like the nose was in the back of my head,” Holm said. “She rocked me at one point, the second round was a bit chaotic. She hit me with a good liver punch as well. I don’t think anyone saw it, but I felt it.”
