It’s getting more and more heated between top ranked UFC welterweights Khamzat Chimaev and Colby Covington.
At a press conference at this past weekend’s UFC 286, Covington took all kinds of shots at Chimaev, claiming that he “wanted to derail that hype train” and calling him an unprofessional fighter.
Khamzat soon responded in a YouTube video, denying the accusations and claimed he agreed to fight Covington on four occasions.
“Colby is lying. He doesn’t want to fight. I swear with everything I have,” Chimaev said. “I swear with the Gods. I accept the fight four times. All the Muslims understand, I swear to Quran. I get four times call, ‘You want to fight?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ I have conversations with Sean Shelby that show it as well that we’re going to fight with this guy, but it never happened.”
Colby Covington fires back at Khamzat Chimaev
During a recent appearance on Submission Radio, Colby Covington fired back with harsh words.
“Listen to what Dana White said in an interview just a few weeks ago. He said; ‘Colby’s accepted every single fight. He’s ready to fight everybody in the world.’ Everybody! Every single fight that’s been offered to me, I’ve accepted. I’ve been ready to go,” Covington said.
“You think the UFC would put me in that position to be a backup fighter to potentially fight for the world championship on their pay-per-view stage if I was turning down fights? Absolutely not, they would never do that.”
The former interim champion did not hold back when he swung at Chimaev.
“I think someone was texting me that he was promising on the Quran,” Covington said. “Bro, that’s so bad, dude. To go on your own religion? Lying on your own religion? That’s so fucked up. I can’t believe you did that.”
