Olli Santalahti on Cage Warriors opponent: “Nothing that I haven’t seen before”

Next weekend at the Indigo At The O2 will surely be something out of the ordinary as Finnish standout Olli “The Amazing” Santalahti (13-6) will make his return at Cage Warriors 169! Taking on British knockout artist Jamie Richardson (11-9) Santalahti on the 30th of March Santalahti looks to get back in the win column and re-establish himself atop the European rankings.

It will be Santalahtis third bout at Cage Warriors and second since last year and the Finn is content with being back in a respected promotion with a long history of European MMA.

“Cage Warriors has always been one of my favorite promotions in Europe and they offer a really good platform to perform and get to the next level all the way to the UFC, Santalahti tells I am more than happy to be back with a multi fight deal.”

Santalahti is gearing up for a much-needed return to the win column, as he has two losses and one No Contest in his last three bouts. In his last fight Santalahti lost a decision to James Sheehan, it was a tough pill to swallow for the Finn, but he made some much needed adjustments to his future fight preparations as a result of the loss.

“Yeah the fight against Sheehan didn’t go as planned. I messed up the refueling after the weigh ins and couldn’t perform as I should have. After the fight we have made adjustments for my weekly training schedule and we have focused more on quality over quantity.”

“We have multiple talents waiting for the challenges this year”

Competing as a pro since 2015 Santalahti is now nearly a decade deep into his career, having seen the Nordic MMA scene change and develop over the years.

While there hasn’t been any new Finns signing with the UFC, the local Finnish MMA scene is growing exponentially and Nordic MMA staple CAGE MMA is continuing stronger than ever.

Santalahti sees so much potential that lies in Finnish MMA, both realised potential and that which has yet to be uncovered.

“I think Finnish MMA scene has been quite silent for a while but we have multiple talents waiting for the challenges this year and I hope that we are able to put ourselves on the map again!”

One of those who is ready for any challenge presented in front of him is “The Amazing” Santalahti who holds a 69% finishing rate – all those finishes secured in the opening round.

While Santalahti is respectful of his opponents skills, he sees Sheehan as a great opponent for this next step in his career.

“Jamie is a well rounded MMA fighter but maybe his best weapons are on the stand up. He has quite good punches but nothing that I haven’t seen before. Overall Jamie is a really good match up for me now.”

A return to the win column is imperative for Santalahti who promises to give the fans the same violent entertainment that skyrocketed him into Nordic and European fame. On top of that he hopes that he can secure a future rematch and titel shot all in one with a big win.

“I will do my absolute best to give my fans a proper show in London & try to finish Jamie in the 1st and collect my 10th first round finish. Also: James Sheehan fights the week after my fight for the welterweight title in CW, and I would be more than ready to have a rematch with him for the title
