A fight between Paulo Costa and Khamzat Chimaev is in the making according to the top ranked Brazilian middleweight.
In a new Instagram post, Costa claimed that the details surrounding the fight against Chimaev are being worked on at the moment.
“Calm down guys . We’re still setting up the last details,” Costa wrote.
Chimaev comes from a first-round submission win over Kevin Holland in September, while Costa comes from a unanimous decision win over Luke Rockhold in August.
Expert claims Khamzat vs. Costa is targeted for UFC 294
When MMA expert Chael Sonnen recently appeared on “The MMA Hour” he also claimed that a fight between Khamzat Chimaev and Paulo Costa is in the works.
In fact, Sonnen even said that the bout is targeted for October, at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi.
“Well, so my understanding is Khamzat is going to fight Paulo Costa,” Sonnen said. “They’ve even got a date. They’re gonna go out [to] Abu Dhabi, that’s a co-main event – very relevant, they’ll be there for three rounds instead of five – Islam [Makhachev] on the top of the bill.
“Now the relevance to Islam on the top of the bill is Islam’s gonna fight the winner of Charles [Oliveira] and Benny [Beneil Dariush], and that’s still three weeks away. So that means the card that I’m referencing out in Abu Dhabi and the placement of co-main event, we’re four, five months away in a best-case scenario. So it looks like we’re gonna keep those two on ice.”
