Eight months before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Yaroslav Amosov won the Bellator welterweight title by defeating Douglas Lima at Bellator 260.

On Saturday, the undefeated Ukrainian champion returns to the cage, to defend his belt against Logan Storley in a rematch at Bellator 291. This time he enters the cage with a different perspective on MMA.

“The situation in Ukraine now is motivation,” Amosov said in an recent interview.

“Before I was only a fighter, a sportsman. The cage was my home. Now, I understand it’s only sports. It’s a big motivation for me, of course. I train, hard training. But I understand it’s not number one. Number one is save your family, you know? Your people. It’s different.”

Yaroslav Amosov has an impressive record of 26-0 and made his promotional debut in July 2018. He defeated Logan Storley in 2020 via split decision. Storley then became the promotion’s interim champion after beating Michael Page in May 2022.
