Swedish wonderchild and ONE Championship strawweight champ Smilla “The Hurricane” Sundell is now finally set for her first title defense in the promotion – and will do so against former opponent Jackie Buntan!
The rematch goes down at ONE Fight Night 14 at Signapore Indoor Stadium on September 29th. The event will be broadcast one Amazon Prime for viewers in the USA and Canada.
Sundell made history last year, becoming the youngest title holder in ONE Championship at just 17 years old, in a one-sided win over Buntan. The Swede knocked out Diandra Martin en route to the title shot. Since then “The Hurricane” has had issues finding an opponent, she also bulldozed Milana Bjelogrlic in a kickboxing bout in May of this year.
Since their first meeting Buntan has gone on to line up two straight wins over respectable opponents Amber Kitchen and Diandra Martin.
While she has built her name in Muay Thai Sundell revealed to Frontkick.onlines sister site Maximum Sports that she plans on pursuing a career in MMA in the coming years. With the credentials the young Swede already has she could very well go on to becoming one of the most heralded Swedish martial artists in modern times.
