Frontkick’s Tobias Lindkvist talks major and minor events from this past week in the Sunday Column.
Samuel Bark returns to Sweden
What a treat for Swedish MMA fans! Samuel Bark returns to Sweden for a fight at AFN 8 in October.
I followed Bark’s career since his pro MMA debut in 2021 and I loved every minute of it. Talk about an entertaining and surprising fighter.
As a three-sport champion, with a 10-2 pro MMA record, wins in OKTAGON MMA and Cage Warriors and a UAE featherweight title, how can UFC even hesitate to sign Samuel Bark?
Guram Kutateladze is back!
Important win for Guram Kutateladze who was 1-2 in the UFC before yesterday’s fights.
What a skilled bunch of opponents the Swedish-Georgian powerhouse faced in his four UFC bouts; now top ranked Mateusz Gamrot, Damir Ismagulov, Elves Brener, and former Cage Warriors champion Jordan Vucenic.
Hopefully Kutateladze will get a ranked opponent next. He certainly deserves it.
UFC 308 is nothing but crazy
UFC 308 so far features Max Holloway, Ilia Topuria, Robert Whittaker, Khamzat Chimaev and Ciryl Gane – this most be among the best three cards of 2024.
Mokaev’s confusing departure
I still don’t get it! Why won’t UFC re-sign Muhammad Mokaev. The guy is 23 years old and not only undefeated in the UFC, he never lost a pro or amateur MMA bout. Why the hell don’t they keep a fighter like that? Exactly how hard is Mokaev to work with?
I guess there’s got to be a story yet to be revealed here.
Nebil Ibrahim’s heart
A big shoutout to Swedish Olympic boxer Nebil Ibrahim who showed both skill and heart in his eight-finals against No. 1 ranked 57 kilo boxer Abdumalik Khalokov. The future is yours Nebil!
The Sunday Column song of the week
American rock band The Standells recorded “Dirty Water” in 1966. The raw and dirty song not only inspired 70’s punk bands, it also became the anthem of several Boston sports teams and is played following every Boston Bruins and Boston Red Sox home victory. Check it out!
