Khabib wanted to retire in 2014
MMA great Khabib Nurmagomedov considered retiring years before he became UFC champion. Due to injuries, Nurmagomedov was sidelined for more than two years from 2014 to 2016. That took a heavy toll on the Dagestani.
“It was a very hard time, and I remember I was talking with my father, ‘Maybe this is a signal from God you have to stop.’ He told me, ‘You cannot give up. When you have some test you have to show your toughness if you’re tough. If you’re not tough you just can give up, and that’s it,” Nurmagomedov said on the Inspire Me Podcast.
Khabib returned in 2016 and two years later he captured the UFC lightweight title.
Holloway has something special in store for UFC 308
Former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway has got something special in mind for his fight against reigning title holder Ilia Topuria on October 26.
“Everybody thought UFC 300 was amazing. Wait until they get to see the outcome of UFC 308. It’s going to be a good one,” Holloway said on his YouTube channel.
Holloway comes from an iconic knockout of Justin Gaethje at UFC 300 in April. In his past 21 featherweight bouts, “Blessed” only lost to Alexander Volkanovski.
Dubois vs. Joshua might break Wembley attendance record
The IBF title fight between Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua is looking to set a record for attendance for a boxing bout at Wembley Stadium in London. The current record is the heavyweight fight between Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte, which attracted a crowd of 94,000.
Dubois vs. Joshia will go down on September 21.
Cortez vs. Maverick re-booked for Dec. 14
UFC re-books the flyweight bout between Tracy Cortez and Miranda Maverick for UFC Fight Night on December 14. Maverick announced the fight on Instagram.
“Rose Namajunas got it last time; now it’s my turn. I have a long time until the fight which means I have a long time to keep getting better. I suggest she leaves her eyelashes at home,” Maverick wrote.
