Coach: Jones could have ‘five or six more’ great performances
The heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 is one of the biggest fights of the year.
Since the two veterans might retire after the fight, there’s almost as much curiosity surrounding the aftermath as there is about the actual fight.
Jones’ coach Brandon Gibson claimed that he’s treating the bout as the final of his fighter’s long career.
“I think physically, mentally, he could go in there and have five or six more great performances,” Gibson said. “There’s nothing left for Jon to prove. I think he really wants this fight with Stipe. I think this fight will help solidify Jon’s status as that great heavyweight champion but it’s not something we talk about every night at the gym. We’re definitely all eyes on Nov. 16. But each time I go to a practice, I’m approaching it as this is my last camp. I’m giving it my all.”
Holloway confirms lightweight move after UFC 308 loss
Former champion Max Holloway’s featherweight run appears to be over after the recent title fight loss to Ilia Topuria.
“You guys saw me kind of touch upon it at the press conference and I can honestly say I think I’m done with 145,” Holloway said on his YouTube channel.
“Your boy, like I said, we’re only getting older. I’ve done 33 [fights], this cut was easy, bro… but it takes a toll cutting weight, period, at whatever weight you are. Like I said, I had to give up ramen for my [featherweight] camps, so I’m done with that. I don’t ever want to give up ramen again. 155, here we come and 155 is where I want to stay.”
Albazi: “No excuses”
Amir Albazi took to social media to comment on his first loss in the UFC.
“No excuses,” Albazi posted on Instagram. “You win some and lose some but I will be back better. I promise. Thanks for the support.”
