Askren feels like Jon Jones ‘got some dirt on’ White
Former UFC fighter Ben Askren is surprised Dana White hasn’t switched focus towards letting Jon Jones face Tom Aspinall in a unification bout rather than facing former champ Stipe Miocic.
“I almost feel like maybe Jon’s got some dirt on Dana or something, because Dana generally would not put up with this type of behavior,” Askren said. “You have this young interim champion, he’s a beast, just smashes people, and the fact that they won’t put them in there together — and then there’s this good [chance] that Jon beats Stipe and then says, ‘I’m done, I’m gone.’ And then you never get to see [Jones vs. Aspinall].”
Coach optimistic about potential Ngannou vs. Jones fight
Xtreme Couture head coach Eric Nicksick thinks a massive fight between Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones could be closer than we think.
“I’m very optimistic when it comes to these things and I think money talks, you know, and you get the right people behind you,” Nicksick told MMA Junkie. “Obviously we have a good relationship with Saudi, and I know Dana and UFC are working well with Saudi, so money talks. No disrespect to Dana, but he has a boss as well.”
Urijah Faber reveals future plans
Urijah Faber is still under UFC contract but have not fought in the octagon since 2019. Faber competed this past Friday in Abu Dhabi, winning agains Bibiano Fernandes in a grappling match at ADXC 5.
“I’ve had some good offers money-wise for bare-knuckle, but I’m not trying to fight world champion boxers in bare-knuckle,” Faber said about his future. “ I’m just competing. At 45, I want to keep testing myself and keep staying active as an athlete. It’s my passion. That’s what I’ve done my whole life.”
