Alejandra ”Azul” Lara is set for a new chapter in her career as she heads to Sweden to compete for Superior Challenge’s vacant bantamweight title on May 31. The Colombian MMA star, who has battled the best in Bellator, now aims to leave a lasting impression on the Nordic scene.
Alejandra Lara’s journey to Superior Challenge has been anything but smooth.
Initially, ”Azul” Lara was scheduled to face Aspen Ladd at Global Fight League (GFL) on May 24 – a high-stakes matchup that was meant to mark her comeback on the international stage. But those plans were shattered when the event was abruptly canceled.
– I had signed with the GFL, and it marked an international comeback for me, and it was a fight at a very high level, Alejandra Lara told Frontkick.
– I was preparing to compete at the very highest level, but then the match was canceled. I was already in the middle of my training camp.
Luckily, an opportunity to compete in Sweden came up instead, and Lara didn’t think twice before she accepted.
– When Superior offered me a title match on almost the same date as my canceled GFL match, I took it as a sign. It was exactly what I was waiting for, what I needed and was looking for. This will be my debut in the bantamweight division, so this is a great opportunity.
This is not just another title shot for Lara – it’s an opportunity to continue her international journey. Having fought in top promotions like Bellator and Invicta FC, she is no stranger to the big stage.
But Superior Challenge is still something special for Alejandra Lara.
– I can’t wait to fight in Europe again. My last fight there was in Italy in 2017, when I made my Bellator debut. Now, stepping into a new country and a new challenge is incredibly exciting.
Superior Challenge 28: Alejandra Lara vs Aitana Alvarez
Her opponent at Superior Challenge will be Aitana Alvarez, an experienced Spaniard who represents Allstars Training Center in Stockholm. Alvarez is known for her aggressive style and recently impressed with a submission win in WOW FC.
Despite Aitanaz’s relentless style, Lara feels confident. She sees herself as a complete fighter and has built her career on always putting on entertaining fights against quality opponents.

Alejandra Lara also feels she is representing her country and continent as she makes her Superior Challenge debut, which gives her extra motivation.
– I love representing Colombia and all of Latin America. It’s something I’m proud of. When I was in Bellator, I was one of the few Latinas in the industry. Now I come with all the pride and a strong desire to represent my country in the best way possible, and carry my flag – and I know the fans will enjoy it a lot.
