Actor Carl Weathers, who played Apollo Creed, in the “Rocky” movies has died. He was 76.
Weathers’ manager Matt Luber and an issue from Weathers’ said that the actor died “peacefully in his sleep on Thursday.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers,” his family said in a statement. “Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognised worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.”

Carl Weathers was a NFL linebacker
The former NFL linebacker who became an athletic Hollywood movie star best known for his role as Apollo Creed in the “Rocky” movies. His character was based on heavyweight boxing icon Muhammad Ali, as well as Jack Johnson, Sugar Ray Leonard and Joe Louis.
Sylvester Stallone, who wrote and acted in the “Rocky” movies, is devastated about the news.
“Carl Weathers was such an integral part of my life, my success … I give him incredible credit,” Stallone said. “When he walked into that room and I saw him for the first time, I saw greatness but I didn’t realise how great.”
“I never could have accomplished what we did with Rocky without him. He was absolutely brilliant,” Stallone said.
Weathers has also played against Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Predator” as well as Adam Sandler in “Happy Gilmore”.
