Swedish Muay Thai prospect Vilda Ekhorn: ”2023 will be a fun year!”

Swedish Muay Thai fighter Vilda Ekhorn is one of the most interesting prospects in Scandinavia right now.

In October, the rising star will take the step from amateur to pro and is set to make her professional debut at the upcoming MTFL: Unite Against Cancer event.

In an exclusive interview with Frontkick, the IFMA World Championships gold medalist opened up on the pro debut and what looks to be a very special year.

”I’ve been waiting for this. I fought in Thailand under the same rules before,” Ekhorn says. ”I wanted this for a long time and I told Patrick Thomsen that I’m ready for it. He wanted me to have 20 amatuer bouts before turning pro, and now I have 20.”

How does it feel to debut on this special card?

”It feels so cool, it’s even bigger to make a pro debut when there is such a good purpose behind it. We will donate some of my purse, and yes, it feels really good.”

”MTFL has been like my next big goal. The opponent is set, I can’t say who it is but I promise it will be my biggest fight to date. I’m so stoked!”

Vilda Ekhorn won gold in the 2023 World Championships

Vilda Ekhorn put together a string of massive performances at the 2023 Muay Thai World Championships in Thailand, a few months back, where she won the gold medal after four impressive wins.

Before her October pro debut, she will compete in the Swedish Championships in September and most likely fight both as a pro and as an amateur at IFMA tournaments during the rest of the year.

”2023 will be a fun year. After the Swedish Championships and the pro debut there’s a European Championships among other things. Depending on how the pro debut will turn out, we will see how we handle things to come.”

What’s the next goal for you?

”I want to fight around the world and do more pro fights. There is this American I defeated in the World Championships who holds the WBC belt that I want to challenge, I think I better call some out some fighters soon. After MTFL there will be some really great things coming up.
