Former UFC fighter Smilin’ Sam Alvey signs with major fight promotion

Former UFC fighter Smilin’ Sam Alvey has inked a deal with Karate Combat.

The recently departed UFC fan favorite will enter the combat pit on September 16 to compete in the promotion’s heavyweight division.

Karate Combat recently announced the news of the signing on social media.

”With wins over the likes Rashad Evans and Nate Marquardt we believe Sam will make an exiting addition to the Heavyweight Roster. Sam has always been a fan favourite and is known to throw down. He will make his Debut in Karate Combat on September 16th in the Dominican Republic,” Karate Combat wrote on social media.

Smilin’ Sam Alvey had a tough UFC run

The always smiling fan favorite made his UFC debut back in 2014 and fought 24 bouts in the promotion. Before signing with the UFC he was a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter 16.

During his run in the leading MMA promotion he faced tough fighters like Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Ryan Spann and Brendan Allen.

His biggest wins came against former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans and Gian Villante.

However, Sam Alvey left the UFC with a winless streak of nine straight fights, that included eight losses and one draw.

His last fight was at B2 Fighting Series 183, in May 2023, where he TKO’d Cameron Graham in the third round of their heavyweight clash.
