At Fight Club Rush 16 in May, Sweden’s Andreas “Bane” Gustafsson and Finland’s Toni Lampinen gave the world one of the the bloodiest and best fights of the year. The vicious fight topped Frontkick’s list of the best Swedish MMA fights in 2023.
The crazy fight was also just awarded with the prestigious UFC Fight Pass 2023 Fight of the Year.
”Andreas Gustafsson and Toni Lampinen gave us the UFC Fight Pass 2023 Fight of the Year at FCR.”
The welterweight bout between the two warriors is most likely the bloodiest battle in Nordic MMA history.
After going back and forth for almost two rounds, trading insanely hard punches, Lampinen couldn’t take more punishment, and when Gustafsson landed a couple of heavy shots, the referee stepped in to stop the action.
“I knew I was tougher, that he was going to fold and that I wouldn’t. I’m ready to die there, it doesn’t matter. If he doesn’t knock me out he will never win and that’s what happened,” Gustafsson said a few weeks after the fight.
Since the fight, Lampinen lost two straight bouts via stoppage at Fight Club Rush, against Christopher Bajo at FCR 17 and Christian Stigenberg at FCR 18.
Gustafsson secured to promotion’s fastest knockout in his latest outing as he finished Dominic Schober in just 10 seconds at FCR 18 in November.
