In March 2019, Jack Hermansson faced veteran fighter David Branch in a three round bout. After just 49 seconds, he submitted Branch with a nasty a guillotine choke that really sent a message to the middleweight division.

The impressive win earned ”The Joker” the Performance of the Night award and gave him an opportunity to rise in the rankings with his next fight.

Just weeks after submitting David Branch, ”The Joker” replaced an injured Yoel Romero to face Ronaldo ”Jacaré” Souza in a five-round main event. The dangerous Souza, a former Strikeforce middleweight champion, was considered one of the best grapplers in the UFC.

However, halfway into the first round, it was Hermansson who had the Brazilian in a choke that seemed tight enough to end the bout. Souza miraculously got out and the fight went all 25 minutes, and even though the ”Joker” hoped to get an early finish, he was more than happy to stand as the winner by unanimous decision (49-46, 48-47, 48, 47).

”I am a force to be reckoned with. I am a title contender”, was Hermansson’s message in the post-fight interview.

”Everything I do in my life is working for this goal to become the best in the world. And when you get the victory there is no feeling like that,” Hermansson said in the post-fight interview.
