Just weeks after submitting David Branch, ”The Joker” replaced an injured Yoel Romero to face Ronaldo ”Jacaré” Souza in a five-round main event. The dangerous Souza, a former Strikeforce middleweight champion, was considered one of the best grapplers in the UFC.
However, halfway into the first round, it was Hermansson who had the Brazilian in a choke that seemed tight enough to end the bout. Souza miraculously got out and the fight went all 25 minutes, and even though the ”Joker” hoped to get an early finish, he was more than happy to stand as the winner by unanimous decision (49-46, 48-47, 48, 47).
”I am a force to be reckoned with. I am a title contender”, was Hermansson’s message in the post-fight interview.
