The rivalry between welterweight kingpins Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards gave the fans some of the best MMA action in the last few years, with Edwards comeback KO at UFC 278 as one of the craziest fight-enders in recent memory.
However, after Usman’s second loss to Edwards, in March 2023, many fans and experts debated if ”The Nigerian Nightmare” was done as a top level UFC fighter.
The British champ does not agree with the critic, but rather unexpectedly backs up his long-time foe.
”I truly believe that he still beats everyone within the top five, top 10, apart from me. He’s a great competitor. Everyone’s trying to say now that he’s lost a step because I beat him. But when he was knocking Colby out, knocking Masvidal out, he didn’t lose a step? Now, suddenly after I beat him twice, he’s lost a step,” Edwards said during a recent interview with MMA Fighting.

Kamaru Usman is rumored to face Khamzat
What’s next for the former champion is still not clear, however, MMA fans and experts are excited about a rumoured matchup between Khamzat Chimaev and Usman.
Chimaev recently teased the matchup claiming it would take place at 170. A win against the undefeated MMA star would be good for Kamaru Usman if he intends to go for another title run.
“It’s a fight that Usman wants, that’s no secret,” UFC president Dana White said about the matchup.
