The boxing spectacle between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul just went down in Texas and left a bitter taste in the mouth. Check out Tobias Lindkvist’s five biggest takeaways from the boxing show.

This is the writer’s own opinions.

1. Mike Tyson. vs Jake Paul – The fight

What a fight!!

Just kidding.

The whole spectacle kinda reminded me of a shitty New Year’s Eve party. A group of people set out with high hopes for an amazing night, only to confront the harsh truth: no matter how much you polish it, a turd is still a turd.

Did you expect an all-time classic? I’m just glad it’s over.

2. The walkouts

There is a lot to be said about the walkouts. Seeing the Logan brothers in a custom-made car, spraying deodorant, and flanked by a massive entourage is exactly what you’d expect. After all, it’s all about creating content, isn’t it?

Mike Tyson’s stripped down one-man-army-walkout was on the other hand cool as hell. He has such an intimidating aura even at 58.

3. Taylor vs. Serrano was the true main event

The true main event of the evening was as expected the title fight between rivals Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano.

Two true warriors in their prime, giving everything from start to finish. A perfect mix of skill and heart. Technical yet violent. This fight just represented everything I love about boxing!

The Netflix commentary team, especially Rosie Perez, seemed pretty damned biased though, so I will need to rewatch it a couple of times without sound to be able to score it, but it was for sure a close one.

Let’s make a third fight, this time as a headliner!

4. Two-minute rounds

I have to say that I dig the two-minute rounds. In the Taylor vs. Serrano fight it really added intensity and kept the fight at a high pace.

In the Tyson vs. Paul fight it made it shorter, which was just great.

5. Is this really what boxing needs?

A lot of people claim that Jake Paul re-boots the sport of boxing, but I don’t know man. Is attention at all costs always the way to go?

When the dust settles, it’s clear this boxing spectacle is a product of its era—be loud, be outrageous, and sell yourself on social media. That’s the anthem of 2024. If a ”fight” between a 58-year-old and a influcer is what pro boxing needs then I’m signing off.

In a few hours I’m heading to Sweden’s best amateur boxing show! Can’t wait to see some proper amateur boxing with real matchups.
