UFC announces a bunch of exciting matchups, including two Swedish fighters

UFC has announced a bunch of interesting fights the past week.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the most interesting matchup that includes seasoned veterans, Swedish prospects and former title challengers!

Andre Fili vs. Dan Ige

Featherweights Andre Fili and Dan Ige will clash on February 10 in Las Vegas. The matchup was first reported by MMA Junkie.

Fili steps in on short notice following the withdrawal of Lerone Murphy. At UFC 296 he stopped Lucas Almeida in the first round. Ige lost to Bryce Mitchell by unanimous decision in September.

Mackenzie Dern vs. Amanda Lemos

With Tatiana Suarez out, top ranked Mackenzie Dern will step in to fight Amanda Lemos in a women’s strawweight bout at UFC 298 on February 17. The matchup was first reported by The OC Register.

Dern has alternated losses in her past five bouts, while Lemos comes from a tough title fight loss against Zhang Weili in August.

Roman Kopylov vs. Anthony Hernandez

With Ikram Aliserkov out, Roman Kopylov will step in to fight Anthony Hernandez at UFC 298 on February 17. The fight was first reported by MMA Fighting.

The pairing were scheduled to compete at Noche UFC in September before Hernandez was forced to pull out due to injury.

Josefine Knutsson vs. Julia Polastri

Undefeated Swedish MMA sensation Josefine ”Thunder” Knutsson will take on promotional newcomer  Julia Polastri. The matchup was first reported by Eurosport NL and later confirmed by Frontkick’s sources.

Knutsson made her UFC debut in September with a dominant unanimous decision win against Marnic Mann Decision.

Chris Barnett vs. Mohammed Usman

A heavyweight bout between Chris Barnett and Mohammed Usman has been added to the UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas on March 23.

Barnett has been out of action for a while and comes from a TKO win against Jake Collier back in September 2022.

Usman sports a 3-0 UFC record, with wins over tough fighters as Junior Tafa and Jake Collier.

Ibo Aslan vs. Anton Turkalj

An interesting light heavyweight rematch between Sweden’s Anton ”Pleasure Man” Turkalj and Ibo Aslan will take place in Atlantic City on March 30.

Turkalj’s coach Joakim Engberg revealed the news during a recent episode of Swedish fighting podcast Käftsmällspodden. Frontkick later confirmed with sources that the fight was signed by both parties.

Turkalj and Ibo Aslan fought at Brave CF 40 in 2020, with the Swede coming out victorious by a second-round submission.

Cynthia Calvillo vs. Piera Rodriguez

A women’s strawweight bout between UFC veteran Cynthia Calvillo and Piera Rodriguez is booked for UFC Fight Night, Las Vegas, April 6. The matchup was first announced by Eurosport NL.

Calvillo rides a five-fight losing streak that dates back to June 13, 2020 when she defeated Jessica Eye via unanimous decision.

Rodriguez is 2-1 in the UFC and comes from a loss against Gillian Robertson in April 2023.
