Palmquist wins gold and Eriksson silver on the final day at the World Championships!

On the last day of the 2023 IMMAF World Championships, Sweden’s Millie Eriksson and Hanna Palmquist competed in the finals.

First to enter the cage was flyweight veteran Hanna Palmquist faced Lauren Reay from Team England in her finals.

Both combatants went all in from the start in the even and competitive fight. After three rounds of action, all three judges gave the win to the Swede via unanimous decision with 28-29, 27-30 and 28-29 on the scorecards.

Fantastic tournament for Palmquist, who defeated Marta Pankiv and Chloe Gowen via unanimous decision to get to the finals.

Flyweight Millie Eriksson faced Team Brazil’s Josiane Oliveira in the bantamweight finals.

In an even first round that took place on the feet, the Swede put on pressure on her opponent, but both fighters landed good strikes. The second round continued on the feet, both fighters traded straight punches and Oliveira tried some spinning kicks with little success.

In the third round, the Brazilian did enough to secure the win via unanimous decision with 29-28, 30-27 and 29-28 on the scorecards.

Sweden had a squad of 10 talented fighters in the World Cup, featuring both promising new fighters and seasoned veterans.

According to the National Team coaches, the squad was a bit thinner than usual, but really proved to deliver when push came to shove.
