Swedish Muay Thai is getting more entertaining every year and 2023 was no exception!
During the past 12 months, we have seen a bunch of up-and-coming Swedish fighters delivering masterful performances at local events such as MTFL and STHLM Fight Night, as well as in Muay Thai World Championships and ONE Championships!
Let’s take a closer look at the 15 best Swedish Muay Thai fights in 2023!
15. Emilia Koivisto vs. Livia Malmborg Nygaard

Scandinavian elite fighters Emilia Koivisto and Livia Malmborg Nygaard clashed in a high-stakes fight on the first day of the Swedish Muay Thai Championships in September.
Just a few years into her Muay Thai career, Koivisto has quickly emerged as a rising star, but the more experienced Malmborg Nygaard was a number too big as she won the entertaining and high-paced fight with 3-0 on the scorecards.
14. Amir El-Dakkak vs. Max Elo

When the skilled Amir El-Dakkak and Max Elo clashed at STHLM Fight Night 1, they really gave it all from the start.
The fans at Münchenbryggeriet got value for the money as El-Dakkak stopped Elo via TKO in the second round. Short it sweet!
13. Emilia Koivisto vs. Laura Cannon

Emilia Koivisto took on Laura Cannon in an international main event at STHLM Fight Night 2.
In the first round, the Swede took command and hit her British opponent with a big knee to the midsection and a spinning backfist that forced her to take a count.
Koivisto poured it on right from the start in round two, landing heavy punches and flush combinations at will. Cannon got more out of round three than the previous two, but Koivisto stood as the winner via unanimous decision with 3-0 on the scorecards when the dust settled.
12. Anton Sjöqvist vs. Dalian Dawoody

Ahead of the third fight between Anton Sjöqvist and Dalian Dawoody there was more than honor on the line. The rivals faced each other twice before, with 1-1 between them, and therefore they decided that the winner would get both fighters’ purses.
Talk about building up a fight!
After a tense start, Sjöqvist took over more and more with his quick counters. Dawoody fought well, but after the final bell, Sjöqvist stood as the winner on points to cash in a double paycheck.
11. Jonathan Larsson vs. Nils Olsson

Jonathan Larsson took on Nils Olsson in a highly anticipated main event at the first STHLM Fight Night at Münchenbryggeriet.
The stage was set for Larsson, who was the big star going into the fight, but Olsson gave him a tougher fight and way more resistance than a lot of people expected.
After three rounds of action, Larsson stood as the winner via unanimous decision, but had to dig deep to get the nod.
10. Vilda Ekhorn vs Vanessa Romanowski

The January fight between Vilda Ekhorn and Vanessa Romanowski at STHLM Fight Night 1 was a clash between two Muay Thai stars in the making.
After an even start, Ekhorn took over more and more. She cut Romanowski and eventually won the fight via a third-round TKO.
Ekhorn then went on to win gold in the 2023 Muay Thai World Championships and dominated the seasoned veteran Anne-Line Hogstad in her pro debut.
9. Emil ”Fucking” Näsman vs. Elliot Jarälv

Fan favorite and home town hero Emil “Fucking” Näsman took on Halmstad’s Elliot Jarälv in a five round bout at STHLM Fight Night 2.
Midway into the fight, Näsman got hit by a left to the head and took a count but got up to his feet. Both fighters refused to back down and during an intense fight they both threw heavy leather that found the mark.
In the fifth and final round, the fighters went all in and gave the STHLM Fight Night crowd value for the money, and after the final bell, Näsman stood as the winner via unanimous decision with 2-1 on the score cards.
8. Freddy Castro Gonzalez vs. Superman Banchamek

In September, the active Freddy “Kreuger” Castro Gonzalez clashed with Superman Banchamek in a Rajadamnern World Series fight at Rajadamnern Stadium in Thailand.
Freddy “Kreuger” put up a good fight in the first two rounds but took two counts as “Superman” landed his heavy left hand twice.
After three rounds of entertaining action, “Superman” stood as the winner with 30-26, 30-26 and 30-26 on the judges’ scorecards. Even though Freddy lost, he fought like a champ and won the respect from both fans and his opponent.
7. Christopher Bajo vs. Sixten Larsson

The MTFL 6 clash between Christopher Bajo and Sixten Larsson was a highly anticipated fight with a great atmosphere surrounding it.
The dangerous Swedish Youth Champion Larsson started at a high pace and cut his opponent with a sharp elbow. However, Malmö’s Bajo showed why he’s one of the most respected combat sports athletes in Sweden when he worked himself back in the fight and was able to get a hard-fought decision.
6. Javad Vahid Rezah vs. Sam Wingqvist

The second fight between Javad Vahid Rezah and Sam Wingqvist had a lot at stake.
Rezah won the first clash, and now Karlstad Muay Thai’s Wingqvist, who’s a Swedish champion, was looking to avenge the loss.
The intense rematch took place at Zone 6, and the Gothenburg crowd got to see an entertaining and even fight that lived up to all expectations. After the final bell, Rezah stood as the winner via decision.
5. Daniel Lejonstad vs. Jonathan Höglund

Daniel Lejonstad and Jonathan Höglund had the crowd on their toes as they delivered one of the best fights of the year at STHLM Fight Night 2 on November 25.
Both fighters went all out in a total war that surprisingly went all three rounds.
After the final bell, Lejonstad stood as the winner via unanimous decision and won Käftsmällspodden’s 5000 SEK bonus.
4. Linus Bylander vs. Nasim Kazem

Linus Bylander and fan favorite Nasim Kazem met in a bloody battle in Gothenburg.
Both fighters showed proof of tough chins and determination as the canvas became a slippery mess of blood.
The dangerous Nazem pressured while Bylander used his technical finesse that in the end got him the win via unanimous decision. What a fight!
3. Smilla Sundell vs. Allycia Rodrigues

Smilla Sundell retained ONE women’s strawweight Muay Thai world title as she took on Allycia Rodrigues in September.
The young Swedish star absorbed Rodrigues’ best shots before overwhelming her exhausted opponent with a barrage of punches, elbows, and knees that forced the referee to stop the fight with two seconds left of the third round.
What a performance!
2. Zvonimir Kralj vs. Hassan Osseini

The heavyweight fight between Zvonimir Kralj and Hassan Osseini was described as Godzilla vs. King Kong.
The heavyweights landed shots that could floor an elephant but both managed to stay on their feet. To the crowd’s surprise, the fight somehow went the distance and Kralj stood as the winner via a tight decision.
What a war!
1. Amir El-Dakkak vs. Nasim Kazem

The fight between Amir El-Dakkak and Nasim Kazem was an instant classic as soon as it was announced.
There was just no doubt that the entertaining Kazem and red-hot El-Dakkak would fail to deliver in front of the MTFL crowd.
After an event fight filled with pure Muay Thai action, Kazem stood as the winner via a razor-thin split decision.
