Eye pokes are among some of the worst fouls in MMA, and sadly they are one of the most common.

One eye poke can drastically affect the outcome of any fight, significantly impact the fight, the fighter’s health and sometimes be the only difference between a win and a loss.

Check out the worst eye pokes in UFC history here!

Jon Jones vs. Glover Teixeira

No list without Jon Jones! Alexander Gustafsson, Daniel Cormier, Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson and Rashad Evans – all have experienced Jones’ fingers in their eye sockets.

Perhaps the worst of them all was when he defended what was then his light heavyweight belt against Glover Teixeira in 2014.

Urijah Faber vs. Francisco Rivera

Uriaja Faber was arguably losing to Francisco Rivera when he the eye poked his opponent. The illegal move resulted in a blind Rivera going down. Faber jumped on him and locked in a choke that forced his opponent to tap.

Rivera later needed surgery to repair the injured eye.

Travis Browne vs. Fabricio Werdum

Fabricio Werdum opened the fight against Travis Browne by landing a crazy flying side kick to set the tone for the rest of the weird fight.

Call for timeouts, scuffles with trainers and Werdum suffering a knuckle-deep brutal eye poke – the fight had it all. Eventually the Brazilian stood as the winner via unanimous decision

Austen Lane vs. Justin Tafa

Less than 30 seconds into Austen Lane’s promotional debut he caught Justin Tafa with a disgusting accidental eye poke.

The action was immediately stopped by referee Dan Miragliotta as blood started trickling out of the right eye of Tafa, and bout was eventually ruled a no contest.

Yair Rodriguez vs. Jeremy Stephens

One of the biggest anti climaxes in UFC history. Just 15 seconds into the highly anticipated featherweight scrap between foe’s Yair Rodriguez and Jeremy Stephens the Mexican poked his opponent so badly that the fight was stopped.

The referee gave Stephens five minutes to recover, but that was not enough, and the main event was stopped as the doctor refused to let the American continue fighting.

The fight served as the main event in Mexico City and quite frankly, the crowd was not happy with the fight being stopped after 15 seconds and protested by throwing bottles and trash at the octagon.

Sean O’Malley vs. Pedro Munhoz

After a reserved start from both top ranked bantamweight fighters, Sean O’Malley accidently poked Pedro Munhoz so badly that the fight was stopped and declared a no-contest.

Not only wasn’t Munhoz unable to continue fighting, he couldn’t see out of his eye for 20 minutes. At the hospital it was declared that Munhoz suffered a corneal abrasion.

Leon Edwards vs. Belal Muhammad

Leon Edwards had been out of the octagon for almost two years when he returned to action to face Belal Muhammad. The Brit dominated the first round and was on his way to secure a victory.

Instead of a win and a glorious return, Edwards accidently gave Muhammad digged his left thumb so deep into Muhammads eye that he must have felt his brain, and the fight was immediately stopped.

Stipe Miocic vs. Daniel Cormier 3

Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormer is 1-1 when it comes to eye pokes. Cormier delivered a serious eye poke in the first fight just before finishing his opponent to become two-division champion.

In the third and final outing, Miocic dug his finger knuckle deep in the DC’s eye and secured the win via unanimous decision.

Anthony Rumble vs. Kevin Burns

Anthony Johnson dominated the fight against Kevin Burns, who poked ”Rumble” in the eye several times, despite warnings from the referee.

In the third round, landed yet another brutal eye poke and this time Johnson fell to the canvas in agony. However, instead of making it a no-contest, the fight was declared a TKO for Burns. What a robbery!
