Swedish welterweight veteran Andreas Ståhl is a two-promotion champion. This past Saturday, he defended his Battle of Botnia strap as he defeated Kirill Medvedovski in just 12 seconds.

In an interview with Frontkick’s sister site Maximum Sports, “Real Steel” opens up on the quickest finish of his career.

“I felt how clean the kick landed and I saw that when he went down he was still in the game, so I put on a barrage of punches until the referee stopped the fight,” Ståhl said. “It felt awesome when I heard the crowd roar. It was wonderful to fight on my hometurf again. So much fun that so many people were supporting me, people who’ve been with me for a long time.”

“Battle of Botnia events are always at the highest level”

North Swedish MMA promotion Battle of Botnia held their first event back in 2009 and Andreas Ståhl made his pro debut against Sebastian Eriksson on that very event.

“It’s fantastic that Battle of Botnia is back and really going for it. I’ve fought for most MMA promotions in Sweden and I have to say that Battle of Botnia events are always at the highest level, always sold out with a great crowd,” Ståhl said.

“We have a lot of up-and-coming fighters and one of the hottest one is Theodor Berggren. It will be fun to follow his career. He will go far, I can guarantee that.”

Andreas Ståhl have a great feeling for 2024

To say that the 35-year-old had a good past 12 months is quite an understatement. Three wins in three title bouts speaks for itself.

In December 2022 he won the Superior Challenge welterweight strap and in May 2023, he won the Battle of Botnia welterweight strap.

After defending the BoB belt for the first time this past Saturday, he’s sure good things will come next year.

“I’ve been taking fight for fight lately, so now I will take the holidays off. It feels like something really good can come up next year.”
