Swedish MMA fighter Hamid Tawana took a shot at female MMA referees at Friday’s AFN 5 pre-fight press conference.
When asked about his last defeat at AFN 4 – a second-round KO loss to Joao Pedro Dos Santos – Tawana gave a very controversial statement.
“I did not lose my fight. I wasn’t dizzy, the referee stopped very, very early. That’s why I don’t want a female referee. I told them ‘this is not a chicken fight this is a dog fight’. Let him kill me or I will kill him, but she stopped the fight very early,” Tawana said at the AFN 5 pre-fight press conference.
“If you compare it to the fight with (Fabian) Ufs, it was a lot of blood and action that’s why it became the ‘Fight of the Night’. But as soon as I was floored she stopped the fight. This is MMA not a fucking boxing fight or a chicken fight. I told them (AFN) that if there is a female referee tomorrow night then I won’t fight. I want a male referee. They are not going to stop (the fight), this is fucking MMA.”
Hamid Tawana is a flyweight fighter with a 2-1 record. Both his wins has come via stoppage.
He made his pro debut at Wolf Fight Promotion 6 and submitted Jakob Valegren in the first round. In his second pro bout he stopped Fabian Ufs via ground-and-pound in the second round.
