The newly crowned WMC Nordic champion Johanna Persson is ready to step into the ring at this week’s Swedish Muay Thai Championships.
Coming from a prestigious win against Tessa Kakkonen in Finland, the Swede is red-hot and ready to win her third National Championship gold medal.
In an exclusive interview with Frontkick, Persson comments on the tournament and the two opponents she can face in her weight class .
“I will have my first fight on Friday,” Persson says.”There are three fighters, including me, in my weight class, and since Lauren Kertez won last year, I’m pretty sure she will be seeded to the finals.”
That means that the Gävle fighter will most likely face Jessica Jerrås from Uppsala Kamsportcenter IF.
“It feels great. I faced both fighters before. I defeated Jessica in the Swedish Championship finals in 2021. It will be great to face her again since I have developed so much as a fighter since then, but I really don’t think too much about the fact that I fought her before. I will just step into the ring and do my thing. That should be enough for a gold medal.”

Johanna Persson defeated experienced opponent
Johanna Persson comes from her biggest win to date as she defeated the seasoned veteran Tessa Kakkonen on enemy territory to win the prestigious WMC Nordic title.
“I fought a great fight and it was more than enough to get the win. I’m bloody happy to win my performance against Tessa, who’s such an experienced fighter. I feel like I really can step up and fight when I face opponents at that level.”
How do you reload from a big win like that?
“I knew the Swedish Championships were coming up and I like to set up goals to work towards. This is the next goal. A fight is a fight so then it’s no problem to reload. I’m more hungry than ever.”
