Sweden has a new European MMA champion in bantamweight prospect Enes Ahmemulic.

After defeating Alexis Ciurleo from France in the quarter finals, and stopping Portugal’s Iuri Rodrigues in the semi finals, he faced the tough Andrii Protasiuk from Ukraine in yesterday’s finals.

During three hard rounds Ahmemulic used his slick striking and strong wrestling to get the job done, even though Protasiuk gave stiff resistance. After the final bell the Swede stood as the winner via unanimous decision and got his first IMMAF European gold medal.

“It feels amazing, all the hard work paid off,” Enes Ahmemulic tells Frontkick in an exclusive interview. “Only a few people know what type of training I had preparing for this. It has been a long week over here in Belgrade with awesome people from other clubs representing Sweden. A big thanks to the coaches that were in my corner in the finals, Besam Yousef and Jörgen Hamberg!”

Enes Ahmemulic: “I am not a talent”

Even though the young fighter pretty much ran through his opponents in the tournament he refuses to be called a talent. He’s clear that it’s hours and hours of blood, sweat and tears that lead up to the finals in Belgrade.

“To me the gold medal represents my hard work and dedication. I am not a talent, and I don’t want people to say that I have talent. I want people to remember me by my hard work and discipline every single day! If I can do it, so can you.”

What more do you have planned for 2024?

“I want to stay active, one fight at a time. More time in the cage for me is equal to more experience, and thats what I need,”Ahmemulic says.

With Ahmemulic’s gold medal, Anton Ringvall’s and Bianca Kristersson’s silver medals as well as Arsen Tuganov’s bronze medal, Sweden was the second most successful country in the Seniors European Championship. Only Ukraine had more combined medals with 11.
