Brazilian UFC fighter Alex Pereira is the only fighter in the world to ever finish dominant middleweight champion Israel Adesanya in any fight sport. The two rivals met twice in Glory Kickboxing, and Pereira came out as the winner both times.
The fact that the Brazilian defeated Adesanya twice, and the fact that MMA gloves are way smaller than Kickboxing gloves, makes him think that “The Last Stylebender” will avoid him in the UFC.
“Now we talk about four-ounce gloves,” Pereira said on the UFC 276 media day. “It is a deadly weapon, but if the big pillows already make him leave on the stretcher with an gas balloon on him, imagine what’s going to happen with four-ounce.”
“I don’t think he wants the fight due to the history that we have,” Pereira continued. “If he really wanted the fight, when I first signed with the UFC he wouldn’t let me do three fights like I’m doing now.
Sean Strickland shoots down Alex Pereira
However, Sean Strickland, who will face Pereira at Saturday’s UFC 276, is not very impressed by the former two-division GLORY champion. He actually claimed that the Brazilian only is dangerous because of his size.
“He’s not even a good striker, bro. Like, fuck dude. The only reason you can do it is ’cause you’re fucking tall,” Strickland said during the UFC 276 pre-fight media day. “You’re genetically gifted. If you were a normal-sized fucking human being, you wouldn’t even fucking be here. Your style sucks.”
