Alexander Gustafsson awaiting new opponent as Ben Rothwell has been released by the UFC
The UFC is currently searching for a replacement willing to step in against Swedish MMA icon Alexander Gustafsson, according to sources.
”The Mauler” was initially scheduled to fight American veteran Ben Rothwell in a heavyweight matchup on May 21, as Frontkick.online was first to reveal earlier this year. However, the fight was recently cancelled since Rothwell just got released by the promotion for undisclosed reasons.
MMA Fighting first broke the news of the cancelation and Ben Rothwell’s sudden departure from the UFC.
Alexander Gustafsson looks to remain on the card against new opponent
Although no replacement has been found at this time, it seems as though Alexander Gustafsson is still keen on making his long-awaited return in May as planned. And with almost two months remaining to the card, the UFC shouldn’t have any problem finding a new suitable opponent for the former light heavyweight title contender.
The UFC Fight Night event on May 21 is headlined by a women’s bantamweight bout between former champion Holly Holm and the No. 5 ranked contender Ketlen Vieira. Check out the updated fight card below!
