If featherweight champion Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski can’t rematch Islam Makhachev at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi, he wants to face the winner of the BMF title bout between Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje.

“That’s something that I’d love to do. I’d do it anywhere, any place, any time. Maybe a ‘BMF’ belt fight while – if Islam is there doing his thing and then we do our immediate rematch after, then I can have three belts. I’d love that. Featherweight, ‘BMF’ belt, and that lightweight belt,” Volkanovski recently said.

Poirier defeated Gaethje in 2018, and the featherweight king thinks he will get it done against on July 29.

“If I had to lean toward someone, I feel like I’d start leaning toward Poirier,” Volkanovski said.

Alexander Volkanovski drops to 145 lbs

The Australian 34-year-old will drop back down to 145 lbs for his next assignment, with the intention to unify his featherweight title against interim champion Yair Rodriguez on July 8 at UFC 290.

“At the end of the day, fight anyone, anywhere, anytime. Who’s the ruler of the badasses? It’s the guys that will fight injured and consistently, guys like Israel Adesanya, like myself,” Volkanovski said.

Alexander Volkanovski comes from his first UFC defeat at UFC 284 in February when he went five tough rounds for Islam Makhachev’s lightweight title.

Before UFC 284, he had twelve straight wins in the promotion.
