Former UFC featherweight Alexander Volkanovski claimed he’s ready to step in on short-notice to save the day if Conor McGregor is out of the UFC 303 welterweight main event against Michael Chandler.
“I reckon, 100 percent. As long as it’s a big fight. I wouldn’t just take any fight. Like you said, that’s a big deal, save the day as well. I feel like I love just saving the day,” Volkanovski during a recent interview with Submission Radio. “Obviously get paid well for it as well. But you never know.”
“I was just mucking about with that. There’s probably nothing even happening. It’s probably just a couple of little hiccups and everyone’s blowing it out of proportion,” Volkanovski continued. “But I will just have fun and throw the name out there.”
MMA journalist Ariel Helwani claimed that the UFC has put out “feelers” about potential replacements and alternative main events for UFC 303.
Alexander Volkanovski is no stranger to taking fights on short notice. In October last year, he stepped in on 10 days notice to take on lightweight champion Islam Makhachev, as a replacement for an injured Charles Oliveira.
Volkanovski is regarded as one of the best featherweights in UFC history and successfully defended his featherweight title multiple times. He holds wins against top fighters such as Max Holloway, Brian Ortega, and Korean Zombie.
