The MMA fans were not the only ones who were surprised about the news of the return of Nick Diaz.
His next opponent, Vicente Luque, just revealed that he wasn’t sure if it was Nick or Nate Diaz he was offered to fight at first. The Brazilian recently recalled the conversation he had with his manager Ali Abdelaziz.
“I said, ‘OK, that’s going to be a different place I never fought,’ and he threw the name out there, Nick Diaz. I was like, ‘Are you sure it’s Nick or is it Nate you’re talking about?’ He said, ‘No, it’s Nick. It’s really Nick.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, let’s go. It’s going to be an awesome fight.’ In my mind, Fight of the Night is definitely up for grabs,” Luque recently told MMA Junkie Radio.
Nick Diaz is a dream fight
To fight a legend like Diaz is nothing but a dream come true for the Brazilian. More than a decade ago, when Luque was making his way into the UFC, he watched Diaz compete and wished to share the octagon with him at some point.
“Nick is a guy that I always wanted to fight before I got into the UFC,” Luque said. “It was amazing to watch him fight GSP, Carlos Condit, B.J. Penn, and even Anderson Silva. He’s fought all those guys that were legendary, and for me, he’s a guy I always wanted to fight.
