After getting revenge on Vicente Luque last weekend, No. 5 ranked welterweight Belal Muhammad is eager to continue his road to the top. Now he is eying a bout with undefeated UFC star Khamzat Chimaev, and seems to have personal reasons to fight the Swede.
“Khamzat was one of the trolls tweeting Luque knocking me out, so I have no respect for him,” Muhammad recently said on The Fighter vs. The Writer. “I’m down to fight him. That fight would mean a lot to me. To beat a guy like that who everybody thinks is invincible and untouchable. I want to be the guy that stops him.”

“I know Khamzat like to stay fighting”
Just a few weeks ago, UFC president Dana White opened for a bout between No. 1 ranked Colby “Chaos” Covington and No.3 ranked Chimaev. However, Muhammad doesn’t believe Covington is willing to risk a fight against the undefeated Swede. He thinks that “Chaos” is more likely to fight the Diaz brothers or someone like Dustin Poirier, rather than a top ranked welterweight.
“I don’t think Colby’s going to take a fight with either of us,” Muhammad said. “He’s looking for somebody off losses or he’s looking for a 55’er (lightweight).”
“Remember the Name” is down to fight Chimaev as soon as possible and visualizes a five-round fight where the winner gets a title shot.
“I’m a guy that likes to stay busy, likes to stay fighting. I know Khamzat like to stay fighting, stay active so I think coming off back-to-back weeks of us fighting, I think that makes a lot of sense, especially with the title fight looming.”
