Former middleweight champion Chris Weidman is booked for his return to the octagon.
On August 19, he is expected to clash with Brad Tavares at UFC 292.
”Verified I’m back! Stoked to be in the octagon once again at [The TD Garden] for UFC 292 on Saturday, August 19th,” Weidman wrote on Instagram.
The fight will be Weidman’s first appearance in the cage since he suffered a broken leg against Uriah Hall back in April 2021.
“These last two years have been the hardest years of my life,” Weidman said a few months back. “I don’t want to cry, I’m not going to cry, but I don’t know if you know this, but I snapped my leg in half in April 2021, and I wasn’t sure I was ever going to be able to compete again in anything, and so to able to come out here and put a show for you guys, win or lose, is truly a dream.”
UFC 292 will be headlined by a bantamweight championship where the reigning champion Aljamain Sterling will take on challenger Sean O’Malley.
A strawweight title fight between current two-time champion Zhang Weili and challenger Amanda Lemos is expected to serve as the co-main event.
