MMA fans around the world are somewhat impatiently awaiting the return of UFC superstar Conor McGregor. While he has previously been scheduled to fight Micahel Chandler, the potential bout has not even come close to being materialised and McGregor still needs to undergo six months of testing with antidoping commission USADA.

Now it seems it may not be Chandler that McGregor returns against at all.

In a now since deleted tweet McGregor openly dismissed the bout with Chandler and instead challenged Justin Gaethje – fresh off of his knockout win over Dustin Poirier at UFC 291.

“I’m the real BMF, he can fight for pennies if he wants but I want spirits, I call the shots, I’m in it to launch shots, fuck chandler, you want it call for it,” McGregor wrote.

Now McGregor has doubled down on moving on from the Chandler fight. In a once again deleted tweet McGregor responded to a fan asking why the Irishman wasn’t interested in Chandler, prompting the following response:

“I’ll do it if they want, no prob. I don’t think they want [Chandler] no more tho, McGregor wrote. There’s loads of juicy fights around and my return date is my return date. I never gave a fuck about who it was. Ever. I’ll fight anyone. I’ll even fly them to me, ask [Paulie] Malinaggi. Flown in and bet around.”

While the response is classic McGregor, the fact stands that he still hasn’t competed since July 2021 and wont be eligible to compete until February 2024 at the absolut earliest. While responses like the now deleted tweet are welcome from fans, nothing would be more encouraged than concrete steps towards the octagon.
