The return of Conor McGregor is getting closer.
At the recent UFC Vegas 73 post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White confirmed that an official announcement of the fight against Michael Chandler will be made during the airing of The Ultimate Fighter, which is coached by the pair.
“That’s correct,” White said. “There’s a fight. He has to get into the USADA pool first. He’s filling out the paperwork. I don’t know how soon that will be done or what’s going on, but that’s his business, that he’s handling with USADA. But it’s all in motion.”
Conor McGregor recently said that he will be back in competition by the end of the year, and USADA later confirmed that they have been in touch with the Irish superstar.
“We have recently been in direct contact with Conor McGregor, and as he confirmed today in the media, we expect to receive his paperwork coming out of retirement and re-entering the USADA testing pool immediately,” a USADA official wrote in the statement.
If he will be back into the testing pool in the next few weeks, McGregor could theoretically be back in the octagon in November or December.
That’s exactly what the UFC president wants.
“That’s what we’re shooting for,” White said at the press conference. “Hopefully we have a big fight in Madison Square Garden in November, and then a big fight in December.”
