In a new interview with TheMacLife, Khamzat Chimaev’s teammate Darren Till opens up about the backstage altercation between Chimaev, Kevin Holland and Nate Diaz at the UFC 279 press conference.
“It was just normal, I don’t know if I’m saying that because we are fighters it was normal, because we fight all the time,” Till said.
According to the Liverpool fighter, Diaz’s team was outside Chimaev’s hotel earlier during the fight week as well.
“I don’t see this like anything, nothing. It’s just team versus team. They are going to protect Nate and we’re going to protect Khamzat. It’s team versus team, that’s all there is,” Till said.
Darren Till: “Here to make sure Khamzat wins this fight”
Coming up next on the UFC 279 fight week is the weigh-ins and the ceremonial weigh-ins. It’s probably safe to say that it will be tense feelings between the teams.
“I said to the UFC; tomorrow, me and the teammates we are just not leaving Khamzat’s side, that’s it. There’s just all of us not leaving him anywhere,” Till said. “I will not be leaving his side tomorrow, I promise you that right now.”
“I’m here to make sure Khamzat wins this fight, gets paid, that’s what I’m here making sure of,” Till said.
