On March 4, Jon Jones will take on Ciryl Gane in his heavyweight debut at UFC 285.
In a recent YouTube video, UFC commentator Daniel Cormier, who fought Jones twice back in 2015 and 2017, claimed that Gane might be an even bigger challenge stylistically than departing heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.
“The issue with Ciryl Gane is you’re going to have a big guy that possesses a lot of those same qualities with the ability to move,” Cormier said.
Ciryl Gane finished the tough Tai Tuivasa in September
In the video. Cormier asked himself what would happen if Jones, who’s known to be a great wrestler, can’t take Gane down and instead was forced to stand and trade with the quick and durable Gane.
“What we saw in the Gane fight against Tai Tuivasa is, even though he can be hurt, even though most of his fights look pretty, Ciryl Gane is a dog. And when he needed to be against Tai, he just fought Tai. Not only did he just fight Tai, he finished Tai Tuivasa. Get tough-skinned, Jon Jones.”
Ciryl Gane has a MMA record of 11-1, with 8-1 in the UFC. His sole defeat came against Francis Ngannou at UFC 270, in January 2022. “Bon Gamin” made his professional MMA debut as late as 2018.
