Just days before last weekend’s UFC Vegas 66, Deron Winn was pulled out of his fight against Julian Marquezue to an freak accident at the UFC Performance Institute.
“Yesterday at the UFC PI, I fainted and had a freak accident,” Winn said after the incident. “I fell down the stairs, hit my head and neck pretty hard. Sustained a mild concussion.”
However, the bad situation turned even worse for the middleweight as the UFC just decided to release him from the roster. Winn recently commented on the promotion’s decision on Twitter.
“Being released after a freak accident on their property the week before Christmas. Man ‘it’s business not personal’ has never been more real,“ he wrote.

Deron Winn had three defeats in his past four fights
The 33-year-old made his UFC debut in June 2019 with a unanimous decision win over Eric Spicely.
He then lost to Darren Stewart via split-decision and Gerald Meerschaert via submission before defeating Antônio Arroyo via unanimous decision in November 2020. After a long lay-off he lost to Phil Hawes in what became his last fight in the promotion for now.
Before inking with UFC, Deron Winn was undefeated with a record of 5-0. He leaves the organization with a record of 7-3.
