Dustin Poirier defeated Michael Chandler in a pivotal lightweight bout at Madison Square Garden.
The first round was as wild and violent as it gets. Both fighters landed heavy shots, and Poirier was hurt for a moment. However, he was able to wither the storm and pouring on heavy blows to the head of Chandler, who miraculously survived the end of the round. Insane and exciting round.
In the second round, Chandler took the fight to the ground and dominated for five minutes. However, in the third round, Poirier was able to capitalize on Chandler’s takedown, securing a rear-naked-choke that forced “Iron” Mike to tap.
In the post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, “The Diamond” commented on the fight.
“He was more durable than I thought he was going to be. I thought if I hurt him I would put him out,”Poirier said.
With the massive victory, the 33-year-old fan favorite is back in the win column after his defeat in the title fight against Charles Oliveira in December last year.
