Dana White’s Contender Series 59 just took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Sweden’s Josefine Knutsson took on Isis Verbeek in a highly anticipated strawweight bout.
After gauging the distance Knutsson fired off a lightning quick high kick, stunning Verbeek. The Swede followed up with a flying knee that was mostly blocked and then followed up with a takedown. Verbeek got back to her feet and the two exchanged knees in the clinch.
Knutsson continued finding success with her kicks and strikes on the feet, garnering praise from the commentators. They clinched up with both landing knees, though Knutsson got the best of the exchanges.
The third round was initially even on the feet but Knutsson was more effective in the clinch and landed top position towards the end of the round, landing strikes on the ground. The fight would end with both fighters on their feet, and a clear-cut unanimous decision victory was awarded to Knutsson.
However, despite a dominant performance, the Swede did not earn a UFC contract.
