The pivotal women’s flyweight bout between No. 3 ranked Erin Blanchfield and No. 4 ranked former title challenger Taila Santos just took place at the UFC Singapore.
Santos started off strong with solid kicks and heavy punches. Blanchfield tried to take the fight to the ground but was cut over the nose.
In the second round, Blanchfield looked for a takedown against the cage, and with two minutes left, she finally took the fight to the ground. However, she was not able to capitalize on the position.
The third round started with Blanchfield working for a takedown but the Brazilian defended well. In the last minute of the fight, the American landed some solid boxing combinations that seemed to hurt Santos.
After the final bell all three judges scored the fight 29-8 in favor of Blanchfield.
The important win solidified Erin Blanchfield as a top fighter in the stacked division. With six straight wins in the UFC, the three by submission, she feels she’s ready for a shot at the flyweight gold.
“I want a title shot next. I want the winner of Valentina vs. Grasso,” Blanchfield said in the post-fight interview.
