Molly McCann is back in the win column after winning her strawweight debut in style at the recent UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas. In the last second of the first round, McCann was able to score the first submission win of her MMA career.

The victory over Diana Belbita snapped a tough two-fight losing skid that weighed heavy on the Liverpudlian’s shoulders.

“It’s just been the hardest 14 months of my life,” McCann said at the post-fight press conference. “My biggest dream was to fight at MSG, and (I) got destroyed. I got co-main event at London and got destroyed.”

“I had to really dig in deep to see if I really wanted it. My coach pulled me aside and asked, ‘How much do you really want to be a champion? It’s going to cost that to make this weight and to achieve at this weight.’ Every single person online doubted me. Every single person gave me hell. That’s icing on top of the cake, that performance. It’s not going to shut them up, obviously, but I couldn’t have done any better. It was mixed martial arts.”

Molly McCann got $50 000

Molly McCann was awarded with the $50 000 Performance of the Night bonus for the nasty armbar submission that forced a tap from Belbita, who later confirmed that her arm was not broken. However, she may have suffered a ligament tear.

“No broken bone,” Belbita wrote. “I have to do an MRI as soon as I get back into Canada. It feels like a torn ligament.”
