Welterweights Gunnar “Gunni” Nelson and Bryan Barberena just clashed at UFC 286 in London, England.
After a tentative start from both fighters, Nelson secured a clinch against the cage.
The Icelandic grappler then landed a takedown with two minutes left and immediately started working on a submission. With only seconds left of the first round, he was able to secure an armbar that forced the American to tap.
Nelson last competed in London in March 2022, when he defeated Takashi Sato via unanimous decision. Now he has two straight wins in the octagon and moves to 20-5 as a pro MMA fighter.
“It feels great. Everything we’ve been working on in the camp just clicked. I felt super comfortable,” Gunnar said in the post fight interview with Daniel Cormier. “I wanted to take my time. I expected him to explode more.”
