A high-stake lightweight bout between former champ Charles Oliveira and rising contender Arman Tsarukyan has been booked for UFC 300, according to UFC president Dana White.
As White made the announcement on social media, he confirmed that the matchup will serve as a No. 1 contender fight with the winner challenging the reigning champion Islam Makhachev later on in the summer time.
“For UFC 300, No. 1 ranked lightweight Charles Oliveira is taking on No. 4 ranked Arman Tsarukyan in a No. 1 contender fight,” Dana White said in a video on Instagram. “Oliveira was supposed to fight the champ Islam Makhachev, but Islam is still recovering from an injury. Tsarukyan is coming off a vicious knockout of Beneil Dariush. The winner will face Islam when he returns this summer.”

Just like Tsarukyan, Oliveira is also coming off a first round stoppage against Dariush. He was then scheduled to take on Makhachev in a rematch at UFC 294 back in October, but was forced to withdraw after suffering a cut on his eyebrow during preparations.
