UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev wants absolute nothing to do with the promotion’s BMF title.
In a recent interview on Daniel Cormier’s YouTube channel, the champion roasted the title and claimed he would never want to fight for it.
“If Dustin Poirier beats Justin Gaethje, and he’s gonna fight next for the lightweight title, he’s gonna come with ‘BMF’ title? I don’t want this shit,” Makhachev said.
“‘BMF,’ what is this? This belt’s for the bums. First time who fought for this belt? Masvidal and Nate Diaz. Two people (who) never can be champion, you know? They give him some belt (and say), ‘Be happy, fight for ‘BMF.’
Islam Makhachev thinks Poirier wins ‘boxing match’
Islam Makhachev claimed that the BMF title is nothing but a strap for the losers and begged UFC president Dana White to get rid of the belt.
“Dana has to stop this. After this, please tell him to stop. Honestly, if someone give me this belt tomorrow, I don’t want this shit. And that’s it. I can beat these guys easy.”
At UFC 291 on July 29, former interim lightweight champions Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje clashes for the BMF title.
“I think Poirier wins,” Makhachev predicted the highly anticipated bout. “What Gaethje have for Poirier? Poirier have good boxing, better than Gaethje. And that’s it. It’s going to be a boxing match.”
