Former UFC featherweight champion, and UFC Hall of Famer, Jose Aldo would love to see his old rival Conor McGregor return in vintage form, in his comeback fight against Michael Chandler at UFC 303.
“I have great expectations for that fight,” Aldo recently told MMA Junkie. “And as I always say, I always root for the guys who I fought and the guys who have beaten me because, you know, that just proves that I lost to the best and I lost to champions.”
Back in 2015, McGregor knocked out Aldo in just 13 seconds to win the featherweight belt.
“So I hope that he can go in there and be the Conor of old, and be aggressive, and go in there to finish the fight, and not leave it to the judges. But you know, I expect great things from that fight.”
Jose “The King of Rio” Aldo will come out of retirement to face Jonathan Martinez in the UFC 301 co-main event on May 4. The card will take place at Rio Arena in Rio de Janeiro in his native Brazil.
“I think I needed a break for my mind and my body,” Aldo said about coming back from retirement. “Just due to the amount of demand I put on myself and the toll that it had taken on me training for the past 20 years.”
